Città metropolitana di Milano

The Metropolitan City of Milan is an autonomous territorial authority in which local communities are institutionally ordered. Including the citizens of the 133 municipalities that are part of them, these communities share close relations of territorial, economic, civil and social integration. Among other objectives, the Metropolitan City aims at sustainable development and widespread urban quality, as well as the promotion of culture, talents, diversity and quality of social life, health, environment, soil protection and hydrogeological mapping as qualifying factors of the distinctive profile of the metropolitan territory.

Comune di Milano

The Municipality of Milan is the autonomous local body that represents the Milanese community; it looks after the community’s interests, promotes its development and protects its cultural and socio-economic characteristics. The Municipality of Milan is committed to tackling climate change through prevention, mitigation and adaptation. In order to reduce soil consumption and promote urban reforestation, the Municipality has planned: the building of 20 new parks by 2030, extended programs of depaving and renaturalizing of surfaces, the implementation of green roofs and green walls in buildings as well as the planting of 3 million trees by 2030 within the metropolitan area.

Regione Lombardia

The Regional Council of Lombardy is working on the implementation of a Regional Strategy for Sustainable Development in order to achieve the objectives of the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" set by the United Nations (UN). Sustainability is considered in its various dimensions - economic, social and environmental - to ensure that satisfying the needs of the current generations does not jeopardise the quality of life and prospects of future generations.

Parco Nord Milano

Parco Nord Milano is a regional Public Law body that manages 1976 acres of protected territory. It is associated with the neighbouring municipalities (Milan, Bresso, Cinisello Balsamo, Cormano, Cusano Milanino, Novate Milanese, Sesto San Giovanni) and the Metropolitan City of Milan as its associated bodies. Parco Nord Milano was established in 1970 with the aim of redeveloping Milan’s northern suburbs. Today the park is part of a wider, more developed and urbanised territorial context, and its goal became to enhance not only the northern Milan area, but also the whole metropolitan area. Over the years Parco Nord Milano has acquired a central role in the Metropolitan City, strengthening its connection with the citizens and increasing its attractiveness, liveability, availability, safety and education for sustainability.

Parco Agricolo Sud Milano

Parco Agricolo Sud Milano is both rural and located in the metropolitan belt and is managed by the Metropolitan City of Milan. It includes the farming and forested areas of 60 municipalities, covering a total of about 116,140 acres; its size places it among the largest agricultural parks in Europe. One of the aims of the park is “the landscape and environmental protection and restoration of the connecting areas between the city and the countryside, as well as the connection of the external areas with the urban green infrastructures" and "the ecological balance of the metropolitan area".

ERSAF

ERSAF is the Regional Body for Agriculture and Forestry Services, responsible for carrying out technical and promotional activities for the development of the agricultural and forestry sectors, as well as for the rural territory and the mountains. By carrying out research, training and dissemination activities, ERSAF is involved in the management and enhancement of the regional forest heritage, nursery activities and in support of biodiversity, technical support for the sustainable development of the territory and environmental requalification, as well as the management of protected areas and their biodiversity, hydrogeological safeguard and urban forestry.

Fondazione di Comunità Milano

Established at the end of 2018 at the initiative of Fondazione Cariplo, Fondazione di Comunità Milano Onlus is aimed at the more than 2 million citizens of Milan and 56 municipalities in the South West, South East and Adda Martesana areas of the metropolitan city. It presents itself as a participation platform and a tool for new forms of philanthropy to address the needs of the territory and improve the quality of life of its community.

Fondazione Comunitaria Nord Milano

Fondazione Nord Milano Onlus works in the Bollatese, Rhodense and Sestese areas to promote the culture of giving by building up a permanent capital, whose profits will be used over time to support initiatives of social value aimed at improving the quality of life in the community.

Fondazione Ticino Olona

The Ticino Olona Community Foundation (FCTO) works in the areas of Legnano, Castanese, Magentino and Abbiatense with the aim of pooling resources resulting from multiple donations that allow it to operate in a grant-making manner, i.e. giving grants for the implementation of significant projects for the development of the territory and, at the same time, providing services to facilitate the growth of the third sector.

Politecnico di Milano

The Polytechnic University of Milan or Politecnico di Milano is a scientific-technological university which trains engineers, architects and industrial designers. The Department of Architecture and Urban Studies - a thematic and interdisciplinary research structure, which was established in January 2013 - operates in the field of architectural and urban design, spatial planning and territorial governance, urban policies, preservation and intervention on the built and natural heritage, as well as historical-critical interpretation of architecture, city and territory. The Department carries out research and design experimentation on transformation and urban reforestation, as well as on the care and governance of settlements in historical and contemporary landscapes.

Università degli Studi di Milano

The University of Milan, also known as Università Statale, is among the leading Italian universities for scientific productivity according to Shanghai, Taiwan and Leiden rankings, with an absolute national supremacy in biomedicine. The University is also the only one in Italy to be a member of LERU, the League of European Research Universities, of which Italy itself is a founding member. As a 'generalist' university, the University of Milan is characterised by its strong interdisciplinary approach and the wide range of fields within it: the proximity and the reciprocal methodological and cultural connection between different fields of knowledge create a stimulating environment for study and work.

Università degli Studi di Milano Bicocca

Founded in 1998, the University of Milan-Bicocca is characterised by its focus on interdisciplinarity and applied sciences such as biotechnology and materials and environmental sciences. Milano-Bicocca addresses environmental challenges by supporting the circularity of supply chains, combating pollution and climate change and by promoting sustainable urban development. In this context, the project "Sei passi nel verde" promotes an ecosystemic perspective of urban greenery also through the direct involvement of students and citizens in its planning and management.
