Goal

Planting 3 million trees in the area of the Metropolitan City of Milan is the most effective, economical and engaging way to slow down global warming, reduce energy consumption and clean the air we breathe from fine dust thus improving the well-being of citizens. This goal will be achieved by increasing the number of greenery in streets, squares and courtyards, as well as on rooftops and on the façades of our homes.

Increasing green areas

By increasing the number of green and wooded areas in the Metropolitan City, we can contribute to the physical and mental well-being of the people living here, as well as to the cooling of the environment and consequently to the reduction of the "Urban Heat Island" effect.

Reducing pollution

Through urban and peri-urban reforestation, we can reduce the average air pollution concentration: during photosynthesis trees absorb carbon dioxide from greenhouse gases and air pollutants - ozone, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide... - releasing oxygen.

Increasing the tree canopy cover by 5%

The comparison between the tree canopy of the Metropolitan City of Milan and that of the world’s main capitals with which we consult has highlighted the need for an increase, always aiming to make the city environment more livable, green, and welcoming.

Reducing energy consumption, valorising property

Mindfully planting trees around buildings allows for a significant reduction in the energy consumption from air-conditioning: trees around houses can reduce the use of air-conditioning by up to 30% and at the same time, increase the value of property by up to 12% - compared to areas lacking in greenery.

Connecting green areas

Forestami has carried out a mapping of strategic areas to identify a series of potential areas to be forested, in order to build ecological connections between various locations of the metropolitan area, thus increasing the biodiversity of plant and animal species.

Redeveloping our neighborhoods

People play a key role in this great collective project. Through the requalification of greenery in neighborhoods and peri-urban areas, and also through the use of shared community-based forms of green management, Forestami aims to foster social inclusion and cohesion.

Promoting public-private dialogue

ForestaMi is a great opportunity for dialogue and collaboration between public and private entities, so that together they might have a positive impact by actively participating in the urban forestation project.
